Das dokumentarisch Langzeitprojekt “Sand” erforscht die urbane Transformation Berlins. Die Fotografien zeigen Berliner Baustellen in der meist kurzen Phase zwischen dem Abriss des Alten und dem Bau des Neuen. Sie beschreiben Orte, an denen das Baufeld gerade geräumt wurde und die Aushubarbeiten eben begonnen haben. Der Titel des Projekts verweist darauf, dass zu Beginn des Bauprozesses Sand zum Vorschein kommt. Da Berlin in einem Urstromtal aus der letzten Eiszeit liegt, gibt es viel Sand im Untergrund. Es wird auch gesagt, dass die Stadt auf Sand gebaut ist. Das Buch “Sand. The Transformation of Berlin“, das 2023 bei The Velvet Cell erschienen ist, umfasst Fotografien aus den Jahren 2017-2022, der jüngsten Phase des Stadtumbaus.

The title of the project refers to the fact that sand comes to the surface at the beginning of the construction process.
